A Series of Unfortunate Events
So the morning started at 2:20am. Running off of 4 hours of sleep, I was finally going to get the opportunity to do one of the top hikes on my bucket list.
A rode my moped over to campus to meet up with some friends, and by 3am we were on our way. Little did we know we would we were about to get on the struggle bus.
First, we took the wrong freeway. When we managed to turn around, little did we know Siri decided to take us to the wrong destination. By 4am, we finally made it to the neighborhood to park, and of course, a police officer decides to stop and interrogate us on our plans.
By this point the signs were saying maybe we should call it a morning, but we didn’t get up for nothing. So, we decided to do the Crouching Lion Hike to salvage the day.
Things Took a Turn for The Better
When we made it to the hike, we quickly realized it was going to be a slippery road ahead. None of us had headlamps either, so it was bracing yourself with one hand and an iPhone flashlight in the other.
We all made it up pretty safe though. As we were waiting for the sun to rise, Maddie and I couldn’t help but continue making our way to the very top of the ridge. We made it just in time to watch the sun work its magic.
The mountains had a gorgeous red hue from the sun, and the view was absolutely stunning. It definitely made the trek and early morning wake-up call worth it.
As the sun completely came up, the green from the mountains contrasted with the blue water were picture perfect. This is definitely one of the top hikes in my opinion on this island.
Why Stop Now?
After getting a ton of pictures, we made the trek back down. Before we took off, we went to wash our muddy shoes in the ocean and found a tree swing.
Driving back to town, we stopped by secret island to hang out by the dock and snap a couple more pics. The walk to the dock was really nice because there wasn’t a single person on the beach. The ridges were extremely clear around Kaneohe Bay.
Despite not starting how we planned, the day turned out to be a really great one! Thankful to live in such a beautiful place.
