“Balance is the key to everything. What we do, eat, say, feel, they all require awareness and through this awareness we can grow.” – Koi Fresco
It’s Time to Get Out.
Lately, I’ve been struggling to find a work and life balance. Since I’ve come back from Christmas break, my only focus has just been to grind, grind, grind.
Many times I feel guilty going outside and taking a break, but at this point, I felt like I needed a little escape.
As soon as I woke up, I hopped out of bed, and I was on the bus within 20 minutes heading over to my destination.
The Pink Pillbox
The Pu’u O Hulu or “Pink Pillbox” Hike is a pretty well known attraction on the West Side of Oahu. It’s a fairly easy ridge hike which offers incredible views of both the mountains and the ocean.
The climb took roughly 30 to 45 mins to reach the top. You can most likely do it faster, but I was too busy stopping and taking in the epic view.
At about 10:30 I was on the hike, and it was pretty hot to say the least. Good thing the zig zag trail up the ridge provided a good amount of shade for the trek up.
Once you reach the first bunker, you get a nice clear shot of the beaches and ocean. Beyond this, I finally reached the pink pillbox, which was colored pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.
A little past the pink bunker is one more bunker and a continuing trail along the ridge.
Take It All In
Every time I get to go explore Hawaii, I’m always feeling speechless. The landscapes and the beautiful blue water is something I definitely don’t take for granted.
There’s a complete 360 degree view at the top of the West Side. I was able to capture a cool timelapse of the mountain range behind the ridge.
Even though this was a quick hike, I easily spent a couple hours here just enjoying the breeze and taking a ton of photos.

Hustling and grinding is good but getting out there is a lot better I say. You should not feel guilty for doing so. It’s about balance. We weren’t meant to work work work and not play. Unless that is what you want to do of course.
I’d rather be out there and be stuck in an office earning meaningless $ even though I am stuck at the office all week. Weekends are my way to unwind. I’d go on that hike more often.

It is great you are learning the importance of balance and change of environment at such a young age.
