It’s Not Looking Good
It was 5:15 am on a Saturday morning and we just arrived to our destination. It was cloudy, rainy, and pitch black of course.
It was about an hour and fifteen minutes before the sun comes up. We were a little unprepared to say the least. The hike we chose to do for sunrise was the Pali Notches.
Going into this we knew it would be pitch black, but neither of us had head lights, so our phones would do. Little did we know this was going to become an issue later on down the road.
As soon as the rain stopped, we made our way.
Things Got A Little Dirty
It started a little rough to say the least. Within 30 seconds, I had my hand covered in mud, and we started to go up another path.
The first part of the hike was a bit difficult. The mud accumulated from the rain had us slipping and sliding all over the place. Not to mention we were trying to hold our phones to see where we were going. This wasn’t going to stop up though.
Eventually we made it to the top. Now time to wait.
Sunrise in the Clouds
This morning we found ourselves up in the clouds. The clouds would shoot up the side of the mountain which was cool to see.
Once we got to top, to get to one notch, you need to climb down a sketchy rope. I was eager to get to the other side, so I attempted it, but I can’t say the same for Sean.
As the sun came up, the clouds turned a magenta hue and the sun rays were beaming down from the clouds. Off in the distance, there was an amazing reveal of Kualoa Ranch and Chinaman’s Hat. Anyone in this direction, sure experienced a beautiful sunrise.
Sliding Back Down
As we started to make our way down, it started to drizzle. You can only imagine what was going through our heads at this point.
One area of the hike, I accepted it and let myself slide down on my butt. I have to say I got a great arm workout this morning holding myself on tree branches.
Overall, it ended up being one for the books. What’s a little adventure without a struggle.

Your pictures are amazing, I love being in places like this when the sun comes up, I’ve had a few disappointments with sun rises over the years due to clouds haha but at the same time I’ve seen some amazing and breath-taking ones too. I do love though when the sun rays shine through onto mountains it just makes the whole scene the more spectacular 😀
